How to Refresh Your Mind by Playing

DO YOU EVER TAKE THE TIME TO JUST TAKE A BREAK FROM THE GRIND AND JUST PLAY AROUND?

The other night I spent about an hour and a half playing around with my little cousin Nathan and my mind was completely refreshed and rejuvenated.

It’s so important to take a break from doing work from time to time and just play. Go outside, swing on a swingset or go ride rides at a theme park. Do something that’s going to amp you up and take your mind off of the business.

You’ll come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!

If you don’t believe me, watch this video from Stuart Brown, the author of the book Play: How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul

rom a leading expert, a groundbreaking book on the science of play, and its essential role in fueling our happiness and intelligence throughout our lives

I want you to think back about the last time you saw that look of pure happiness on the face of a child who was playing in the school yard. Or maybe the pure joy of a yellow lab racing across a lawn after a ball. This is the joy of play.

By definition, play is purposelessall-consuming and fun.

In this book by Dr Stuart Brown, you realize that it is anything but trivial. It is a biological drive that we all have that is as important to our general well being and health as sleep and/or nutrition. As humans, we are designed by nature to thrive when we play.

But here’s the problem….

Not many people take the time to actually learn about the importance of play. Even fewer actively pursue doing something that they consider playful or playing. I want you to think back on the last time that you actually took time out of your day to do something for the pure joy of doing it.

Maybe it was you were walking down the street and started giving everyone high fives, or maybe for you it’s nailing a three pointer in your buddies face while playing pick-up basketball. Seriously, think about this.

How does it make you feel?

It’s my guess that you probably get a shit-eating grin on your face and are thinking “damn, I did something awesome!”

I know how I felt when I finally won a hot wheels race car race against my 3 year old cousin….even though he insists that he won every single race.

and guess what else?

I felt REFRESHEDREJUVENATED and ALIVE!

How often in your life do you feel any of those things?

Now here’s where the fun comes in for me. I’m going to challenge you to find some time in the next 7 days to just play.

To do something for the sole purpose of playing, no other reason.

After you’re done, I want you to comment below on what you did and how it made you feel.

Is that a deal?
