The other day we went to Stingray City here in the Cayman Islands and I had the opportunity to swim around with them, hold them, give them some kisses and even get a back massage from one of them… this was all without buying this particular stingray a drink or anything.
Definitely one of the cheapest dates I’ve been on.
haha but this honestly was an extremely cool experience. You would never guess that the creature that killed Steve Irwin would be so friendly. We learned how and why Steve was killed by one of these stingrays and it was because he jumped onto the back of the stingray from behind and surprised it.
Naturally, the stingray was defending itself and whipped its tail around to kill him.
At Stingray City, they have been feeding the rays in this area for over 50 years and these particular stingrays are so used to people arriving with food that they have gotten used to being around them.
If any of you have ever been to Stingray City or Rum Point here in the Cayman Islands, you may have seen Stinky swimming around all the boats. He’s a pretty horny dolphin so they made sure everyone was firmly planted on the ground lol.
Stingray City was definitely a fun little adventure and seeing the stingrays up close and personal was something I hadn’t done before. Definitely a fun adventure!
