Today I started a juice fast with my roommate. After watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead (click for a review) I was curious about what would happen to me on a juice cleanse.
Last month I had decided to test out the Occam’s Protocol workout in The 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss so that I could put on some weight. I have been 160 pounds for the past 2 years and wondered what it would be like if I put on 10 pounds while following the advice of Tim Ferriss. I started at 160 pounds on September 25 with 12% body fat and followed the recommendations which included 2 extra protein shakes a day, and after 30 days I was 170 pounds on October 25 at 10.8% body fat.
It was an interesting month to say the least and I ate mainly eggs, oatmeal, spinach, chicken, pork loins, black beans, lentils and rice for my meals. I threw in extra rice and extra protein shakes throughout the day as well. This worked fairly well, although the first few days I literally felt sick after eating so much food after not being accustomed to stuffing my face so much.
After the 30 days, I felt pretty good and was sleeping a little better than before the test.
I decided that since I tried a new lifestyle for eating/working out that I might as well give juice fasting a shot as well. I also decided to buy a Breville BJE200XL juicer after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead so I could incorporate juicing into my lifestyle. Thanks to people like you who helped me make the Amazon affiliate commissions that paid for my juicer.
Day 1 of Juice Fasting
Today when I woke up, I had a glass of ice water and then blended up a juice for breakfast. I then went to the gym and did an hour long workout which was mainly legs and cardio. When I got home, I was starving and needed something in my stomach so I made another juice.
I then went on to create content for some niche blogs and brainstorm ideas for videos for both Brain Smart Success and my personal blog.
After doing 3 hours of work, I was once again hungry. This whole not eating thing was starting to make my stomach mad at me. I decided to look up a snack recipe that I could use to get me through until my dinner juice and came across one:
-ginger root (about the size of my thumb)
-1/2 of a lemon
so I decided to make that and it tastes pretty damn good if I do say so. The ginger is really potent and made the juice taste different from all the others I’ve had, but it’s a nice little snack. It’s filling me up very well and I’m surprised by that.
How Long Will I Juice Fast For?
I’m not sure how long I’ll do the juice fast for. I really don’t need to lose any weight and my diet has been healthy for the past few years. I’ll probably end up doing it for 3 days just to cleanse me completely and get some input on what it’s like to do a fast. Who knows, maybe if by day 3 I feel great I’ll take the fast to 7 days.
