The first step is building your e-mail list.
E-mail is different from normal postal mail because you have to get the permission of a person before adding them to your e-mail list. This means that people won’t be pissed when they get your e-mail, as opposed to people ripping up that ad you sent to their house. If you don’t get their permission, you violate SPAM laws which means you’ll be getting a hefty fine.
The best way to get people to sign up for your list is to offer them something free of charge. This can be a coupon to your business, a free e-book about how to use your product or even a tutorial video teaching the prospect how they can double their blog traffic like I offer here.

Another GREAT way to get people to join your list is to buy a small book like this and have them write their name and e-mail address in the book when they come into your business. Let them know they’ll be getting news about bonuses and sales you’ll be having.
The second step is the auto-responder
Once you get your customers onto your list, this is where the auto-responder goes to work.
What is an auto-responder?
Auto-respond is a series of e-mails programmed to go out at regular intervals. You could write an auto-responder series about certain stretches that can help them alleviate back-pain if you are a chiropractor or something that will teach your customer something that will help them.
Each e-mail that is automatically sent out contains a valuable piece of information. This isn’t where you want to advertise. Build up the relationship and provide some value to your prospect.
You just want to educate and establish yourself as the expert, or go-to guy or gal in your field. And you can include a link to your store in the footer of your e-mail and I recommend doing this.
Always remember that balance is the key. Don’t overdo the e-mails but don’t let them forget you. The more value that you add to your e-mails, the better. People are getting bombarded with ads every day (over 4,000 a day on average). People have become immune to this so you need to wrap it in an educational way.
