How To Be Fascinating

by Chris Hughes on July 10, 2009

Individuals often forget what it takes to be fascinating to others and often “miss the boat” if you know what I mean.

People spend most of their lives talking and really not listening as we are meant to do. If you think about it, we have 2 ears and 1 mouth which you’ve probably heard many many times before…. I know that I have :)

So what am I getting at here?

Alright. Short story time….

You just spoke to a colleague who had attended a party a week ago. The day after the party, a woman to whom this man had spoken with sent him an e-mail as a thank-you.

“I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation” she wrote to him.

The next day the fellow had learned that this woman spoke with a mutual friend of theirs and told her that your colleague was “a great conversationalist. He was so interesting!”

The thing that’s weird about this is that the man had not spoke more than one minute the whole hour long conversation. She had spoken the other 59 minutes yet she thought that HE was the interesting/fascinating one.

So keep this in mind the next time you are having a conversation, Listening makes you captivating.
