Halloween is a fun time. Think about all of the childhood memories that you have had and all of the costume parties that you have been too while you are getting older.
I remember being a pirate, Yoda, mad scientist, dracula and various others as a little kid and I loved every single one of those costumes.
Now, I’m thinking about what I want to be for this year. It’s my senior year of college and I’m looking to have a ridiculously good time. Yet, I don’t want to be any of the traditional outfits because well…I’m weird.
I just read the book I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max and absolutely loved it.
That book is hilarious beyond anything I have read in a long time. This got me thinking that maybe I should just go out as Tucker Max…maybe with a t-shirt that says “I’m Tucker Max” on it but that’s not too creative.
This got me thinking about how creativity is everywhere on Halloween and how people actually are HAVING FUN on this one night or weekend of the year. Why can’t people be this creative the rest of the year? Why can’t businesses be this creative and have FUN with their marketing?
When you really get down to it, business can be dry and boring…no one really likes that. People like getting entertained, having fun and doing things DIFFERENTLY.
You’re probably thinking “But what can I do to really be different in my business?”
Great question…the answer is..*cue scary music*
ANYTHING THAT’S DIFFERENT
A little activity that you can do is to find out what types of ads everyone else in your industry is using. Are people using television commercials stating that “We’ve got the best product or service because it’s been tested by scientists…” you know, the typical marketing mumbo jumbo. If they are…think of the exact opposite thing. Maybe do some commercials with just happy customers giving you testimonials of how your product or service has helped them. This is different, inexpensive and effective.
What’s better for your business? You as the owner saying “our products awesome” or happy customers saying “this product is awesome”?
You and I both know it’s the latter. It’s social proof at its finest.
So as of today, how about you start to do things a little differently? At least TRY something that’s a little different. It may or may not work, but what are you always supposed to be doing as a marketer? TESTING and trying to beat your best converting offers. This leads to more profits and more fun for you!
I’d love to help out if you need help with brainstorming some new concepts for your business. I hope you have a Happy Halloween and….
