This blog post is for all of my Gen Y friends out there. Those of us who are called “lazy, slackers and all the other negative stuff that we sometimes act like”.
I want to talk about the importance of exercise for you and me. My main focus in this post is going to be on the benefits we receive from exercise, both the mental benefits and the physical benefits.
Let’s get started with the mental benefits:
The brain is the most powerful muscle we have in our body. The thing that sucks about our brain is that the research that’s out there now states that we only use about 10% of our brain. I mean, 10%, really? What’s going on with the other 90%, is it on vacation or something?
Well it is true and we really do only use 10% or less of our brain. As I shared with you in How To: Get Results Juggling Multiple Projects, the Pareto principle comes into effect here once again. Except in this case it’s 90-10. I want you to think about what you’ve accomplished(or plan to accomplish) in your life. Now stop and think about how much of your brain you will use or have used to accomplish these things. Yep, still 10%.
Well if I can only use 10% of my brain, why should I care? The thing is, you want that 10% of your brain that you get to use to be in tip-top shape. You want to be on the ball, in the game and have your creative juices flowing. The best way that I personally know how to get my creative juices flowing is to head to the gym for an hour or so and work out. No, i’m not talking sissy workouts here either, I mean pushing myself and forcing my muscles to grow and sweating. Hard work.
“The human brain evolved under conditions of almost constant motion. From this, one might predict that the optimal environment for processing information would include motion. That is exactly what one finds. Indeed, the best business meeting would have everyone walking at about 1.8 miles per hour.”
“Exercise improves cognition for two reasons:
Exercise increases oxygen flow into the brain, which reduces brain-bound free radicals. One of the most interesting findings of the past few decades is that an increase in oxygen is always accompanied by an uptick in mental sharpness.
Exercise acts directly on the molecular machinery of the brain itself. It increases neurons’ creation, survival, and resistance to damage and stress.”

Basically, increasing the oxygen to your brain through exercise means more ideas will come to you, you’ll be able to think out new solutions to problems faster and pretty much be smarter. Cool, huh?
That’s just a few of the brain benefits of exercise.

Now onto the physical benefits of exercise for us Gen Y Entrepreneurs:
I love beautiful, intelligent women. Women love guys in good shape. With my expert college experience in problem solving, I have figured out a solution to this issue.
Beautiful, intelligent women + me being in shape = success! Right? Haha, alright so maybe that doesn’t solve all of our questions about the physical benefits, but it’s a start and I like being honest.
Basically, exercise allows you to lose weight, tone muscle and have more energy. When you exercise, you exert a certain glow about you that you have pushed your body and are improving yourself. When you take the time to do this, people notice. You’ll also notice when you look in the mirror.
Everything seems to run in a chain and what happens next is pretty amazing to me.
Exercise –> Lose Fat –> Increase Muscle –> Increase Confidence & Energy –> Improve Productivity –> Improve Creativity –> Attract More Individuals of the Opposite Sex
Simple deductions come up with the fact that
Exercise –> Attracting More Individuals of Opposite Sex
Oh man, I feel like I’ve figured out the circle of life. Now if only I can figure out where Simba goes….
This is basic human needs so don’t get all freaked out on me. It’s why we do anything, to improve ourselves or to improve how we look in the eyes of others.
But I don’t have time to work out…
BULLSHIT. Everyone can find one hour in their day to spend for themselves. Finding the hour will definitely help change your life and help lead to a better life for you.
The way that you find time to exercise is to schedule it. Make it a part of your morning or afternoon routine. Wake up an hour earlier to walk around town for an hour or go to the gym and lift. Get up and move, physical exercise will change your life and I can guarantee that.
If you want, you can do a 90 day challenge like P90X and really achieve the greatest results from working out. I did this and documented it at P90XWithChris.com
So what are you waiting for? Starting today I want you to take at least 30 minutes a day to exercise.
