Book Review: Ignore Everybody And 39 Other Keys to Creativity by @gapingvoid

Ignore Everybody and 39 Other Keys to Creativity is a book that is a quick read with a lot of lessons.

I personally really enjoyed this book because in it, the ways that the messages are full of wisdom in a hilarious yet efficient manner.

There is some vulgar language in the book and I wouldn’t recommend it if you can’t handle a few curse words here and there.

My favorite Key is number 10 “Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb.”

This section is taken directly from the book:
“You may never reach the summit; for that you will be forgiven. But if you don’t make at least one serious attempt to get above the snow line, years later you will find yourself lying on your deathbed, and all you will feel is emptiness.”

Everything in life is a journey. Mount Everest doesn’t necessarily have to be Mount Everest and often times it is a lot easier to conquer than climbing Mt Everest. My personal journey is that of creating a successful business as an Internet Marketing Consultant for Small Businesses.
You may have a different Everest in your mind, are you really aware of what your final destination is?

Let’s say that you never climb it..

How would you feel if you never climbed it? Does this get you upset and even angry? Or are you someone who can just say “Never mind, I never really wanted to accomplish that anyway.”

If you’ve never even tried to climb it and its the end of your life, YOU SUCK in my opinion. It isn’t OK for you to not try something that you’ve really wanted to. If you are currently thinking about accomplishing a major goal and you aren’t doing all that you can to accomplish this goal, what are you waiting for? Don’t let anything hold you back, EVER. You can learn to accomplish these goals by setting deadlines for your goals.

“Admit that your own private Mount Everest exists. That is half the battle.”

Another great lesson I’ve learned from this book is number 3. Put the hours in.

“Doing anything worthwhile takes forever. Ninety percent of what separates successful people and failed people is time, effort and stamina.”
Let’s just take a second here and think about this. Everyone who has ever become successful has done it one way and that way includes putting the hours in. There are some short-cuts to certain things, but there is always the time put in to develop relationships, learn the material and put it in a comprehensive way that you can share with others.

Another message in this section is to find an extra hour or two in the day and pursue your passions during this free time.. Make this time super productive and you’ll be accomplishing life-transforming things. Sure you won’t be able to watch that hour of TV or waste time on facebook looking at pictures but you will be creating an asset for you. This is more important than looking at someones facebook pictures for 2 hours or staring aimlessly at the TV. By the way, TV sucks anyway. There’s never anything worth watching besides Duke Basketball 😉 …and a few other sports teams 🙂

We need to focus more on Creativity.

Creativity is awesome. We need to take more time to dedicate to creativity, no matter what line of business we are in. Creativity improves your life and your business, so start taking the time to brainstorm new idea’s, learn to juggle, or just start mind-mapping!

This book is a great guide to improving your creativity and I recommend it to anyone who has been hit in the head by writer’s block or whatever you’d like to call it. I don’t believe in writer’s block because if I have nothing to write about, I do something else. (Simple solution to writer’s block 😉 )

Personal rating for this book: [rating:5]

Impossible is Nothing.

adidas- Impossible is Nothing

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

~ Laila Ali (Mohammad Ali’s Daughter)

I shared with you in the last post that I used to play soccer, so I thought I’d share something soccer related with this post. You may be familiar with Adidas’ “Impossible is Nothing” promotions or you may not be. If you haven’t taken the time to watch the video above, take the 3:34 and watch it. It’s truly inspirational and shows that nothing is truly impossible.

The reason that I’m writing about this today is because I am starting to realize more and more that people are always telling you and I that we can’t do something. SCREW THEM! We can do anything that we want to do. There is no point in letting what someone tells you hold you down. We are the only person who can decide our future. We make the decisions that influence our lives, it’s no one’s decision but our own.

I’m sick and tired of people telling us that we can’t do something. If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that. Adidas says it best with their Impossible is Nothing slogan and I believe this is the truth more than anything I’ve heard in a long time. If you are stuck on something in your life, there is a reason. It’s because you have made this thing seem impossible. I’ve done it with a lot of different things in my life. I’ve made certain things impossible in my mind and that is the reason that I haven’t accomplished them. Now is the time to MAKE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. If you want to learn how to truly be happy, there is a way. Find someone who is truly happy and learn from them! If you want to make more money, learn from someone who makes more than you.

When you do this, you’ll start to notice that these people thought that accomplishing what they now have was once impossible. YET they made it entirely possible by breaking it down and doing it. You can do this too 😉

Impossible is nothing

What do you think when you read that? For me, I think of all the things that my teachers and coach’s had told me throughout my life. “You’re not tall enough, you aren’t smart enough, you can’t afford to do that, you can’t you can’t you can’t” BLAH BLAH BLAH

BULLSHIT. I CAN. I can do whatever I set my mind out to do and so can you.

As humans, we are programmed to have infinite potential.

There are way too many people in this world who are negative and not enough people who are positive. You hear it everyday from someone, “You can’t do that”. Well, I am here to tell you that “YOU CAN DO IT.”

Man, I feel kind of like a motivational speaker writing this right now. I wrote up a blog addressing whether or not positive self-talk is BS that addresses a little about how many people fail to use positive self talk effectively.

But the truth of the matter is that we really can do anything that we want to. No one can control our actions. If we choose to be successful, we WILL be successful. I’ve made the decision to declare to myself that Impossible Is Nothing and I’m sticking with it. Are you with me?

Is Positive Self-Talk BS?

You’ve probably read about it at least once in your life. Maybe you have read it in a book or heard about it on Oprah or any of the other TV stars who have had shows featured on positivity. You may have even heard of the book/movie The Secret. But do you really believe that positive self-talk is good for you?

Too many of these books, movies and TV shows just give you the basics to improving your life through positive self-talk. They tell us “you can become whatever you want if you are positive”. When I first heard this, I decided that I can make $1,000,000 in Network Marketing without any knowledge of marketing, business, relationships or anything. I sure fell for that!

Well it’s worked for the people in the movie and the book

I saw The Secret AND read the book. I was ready to make my million dollars. I wrote down my goal of making that money and thought about it everyday. I got excited when I was thinking about it and told myself that I already had the money. Getting excited each day I found myself having positive thoughts each day that the money was on its way to my bank account.

Too bad that just THINKING about the money and having positive thoughts didn’t bring me that million dollars. Boy was I disappointed. I waited a year trying to be positive the whole year. Still nothing. Wow, I must not be trying hard enough…

What I was missing….

After noticing that the money wasn’t just magically being deposited into my bank account I got a little pissed. I mean, what the hell? I am being positive and waiting for my money, WHERE IS IT!?!?!

Well, it turns out that there is something called the ACTION step that wasn’t mentioned too much in the book or the movie. I realized this about halfway through the year….I’m a slow learned sometimes. I started working more on improving myself and reading as much as I could about ways to succeed. I would read books on personal development, business building, entrepreneurship, identifying and capitalizing on strengths, books on time management, books on influence, books on sales, books on finance and books about anything that I could possibly learn about success and what needs to be done in order to succeed.

It was only after reading these and starting to implement and take action on the ideas I had that I started to notice a difference.

The change happens when you are ready for it…

I definitely was not in any position to be successful and that is the reason that I was not successful. I thought that I was ready and deserved to have a million dollars. Why wouldn’t I deserve it? I was 19-20 years old and I thought I knew it all. LOL. Little did I know that life knows when you are ready.

It took me a while to truly understand the fact that life wasn’t going to just give me something because I had positive thoughts about it. I needed to include a plan of action along with my positive self-talk in order for me to see even the slightest change in my life.

Life truly changes when you realize this. I accepted the fact that it was me who was responsible for my success. It was the actions that I take on a daily basis, the people I connect and surround myself with and the experiences that I have that create true success.

So, is positive self-talk complete and utter BS?

No. Positive self-talk is the first step along the path of improving yourself. It is an essential step and one that is easy to implement. Don’t try to control every single thought that you have, that’s flat out impossible…believe me, I tried 😉 Just take notice when you are having negative thoughts and make a little change to try and find the positive in everything.

Today, you can start to change your life. Let’s face it, you control your life. For me, I have chosen to be positive and to try to bring positivity into the lives of those around me. Feel free to join me on my journey, it’s going to be a fun ride.

If this post helps you, feel free to share it with everyone you know and leave some comments. I’d love to know any experiences you may have had.

A Motto To Live By – Here’s to the Crazy Ones…

Here’s to the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The rebels.

The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently.

They’re not fond of rules.

And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them,

disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.

Because they change things.

They invent. They imagine. They heal.

They explore. They create. They inspire.

They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones,
we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think
they can change the world, are the ones who do.

This is for all of us out there who think differently, act differently and do things differently. We are the reason for Change. Think about all the people who have influenced history throughout the years. Are they considered normal for their time? Probably not.

Are they remembered? Yes.

Do they influence people? Yes.

Are they the individuals who make the world a better place? Yes

This is for all of you out there who are like me and feel that it’s better to be extra-ordinary than be ordinary. Those of us who are out to change the world, one person at a time. No matter what we strive for in life, we know that we are going to get it because we are determined.

When we get into the zone, no one can stop us.

Keep up the great work everyone. Be different, be anything but ordinary.

Attitude Makes All The Difference in Life and Business

Zig Ziglar tells a story of a woman with a negative attitude who hated her job, shifted her attitude and changed her life.

Unless you take step #1, you’ll NEVER get anything better in life.

This is great, shows how to be grateful for what you currently have and aren’t appreciative of.

You aren’t going to change anyone else, You can only change YOU. It’s all internal.

Change your Self-Talk, make it as much POSITIVE as you can. You might feel weird at first, I know I do sometimes. I’m kind of lucky now though, I have a mirror in my dorm room, and a private little suite bathroom for me and my 5 other suitemates that I can use. This way I’m not standing in the public bathroom in front of 100 or 200 kids on the hall, but only 5 :-p

I know if someone walks in, they might laugh at me, but guess what? I’ll feel a hell of a lot better afterward and the people who laugh at you are the ones who are trying to either: bring you down, don’t understand what you’re doing or want what you have! And just think, you can teach them what to do afterwards!

So, just do one thing to start, take out a piece of paper and a pen. Start out small, write 10 things that you are grateful for.

Write it like this:

“I like ______”
“I’m so happy and grateful that ____________”

Whichever is most comfortable for you. Then do what Zig Ziglar says, read it in the mirror, and for a week straight, write down 10 more things that you can be grateful for over the next week. Read these each day, notice how much your life changes!
